Planning Approved for Strood Civic Centre Redevelopment
Date posted 27/02/2025

Medway Development Company (MDC) has secured planning approval for a transformative new development on the site of the former Strood Civic Centre. The scheme, which includes 195 high-quality homes, forms part of Medway’s broader regeneration plans and will bring new life to this long-vacant brownfield site.
The development will comprise 140 apartments (64 one-bedroom, 69 two-bedroom, and 7 three-bedroom) and 55 houses (13 two-bedroom, 28 three-bedroom, and 14 four-bedroom), catering to a diverse range of residents. Designed with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, the scheme also includes enhanced public spaces, a vibrant waterfront café/bar, and improved connections between the High Street and the riverfront.
With careful attention to heritage views, the development integrates a sensitive approach to building heights while maximising spectacular views of Rochester Castle and Cathedral. A large public realm space will connect the high street entrance to the river walk, providing a welcoming environment for both new residents and the wider community.
This approval marks a significant step in Medway's regeneration journey delivering much-needed homes in a prime town centre location while enhancing the area's character and connectivity.
